WINDOWS XP SETUP BKT 26-Nov-03

Step 1:	Install the Ethernet card that will be used to talk to the PowerPC in
	the controller console.

NOTE: The built-in Ethernet port will be used to connect to the
customer LAN. Don't use it to connect to the controller! It has been
MTS's experience that built-in Ethernet adapters experience period
messaging delays and have lower overall throughput. Third-party
Ethernet boards installed on the PCI bus don't seem to have this problem.

Step 2:	Do basic Windows XP installation.

Step 3:	Set up the Lab Network Ethernet Connection

Select Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network Connections. Locate the
icon for the built-in Ethernet adapter. Sometimes it is difficult to
determine which icon is the built-in adapter and which one is the second
	Ethernet adapter--- be careful.

Change the name for the built-in Ethernet adapter to "Lab Network
	Connection", or something like that.

Double-click on the icon and hit the Properties button. Fill in the
	necessary information, according to taste.

Step 4:	Set up the MTS Controller Ethernet Connection

Select Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network Connections. Locate the
icon for the second Ethernet adapter. Sometimes it is difficult to
determine which icon is the second adapter and which one is the built-in
	Ethernet adapter--- be careful.

Change the name for the built-in Ethernet adapter to "MTS Controller
	Connection".

Double-click on the icon and hit the Properties button. Fill in the
	necessary information, as follows:

		Ethernet Adapter Configure...
			Network Speed: 100Mbps
			Duplex Mode: Half
		Client for Microsoft Networks off
		File and Printer Sharing off
		QoS Packet Scheduler off
		Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) on
			Use the following IP address:
				IP address: 148.150.203.190
				Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
				Default gateway:	(blank)
				Preferred DNS server:	(blank)
				Alternate DNS server:	(blank)
				Advanced...: (ignore)

Step 5:	Install MTS Controller Software

MTS controller software can be installed by simply copying the folder
containing it onto your C: drive. No installation program is required.
The location of this folder can be anywhere, but is usually placed at
the top level of the volume for convenience. The name of this folder
is also arbitrary. However, it is important not to rename any of the
files within the controller software folder nor move them relative to
	each other.

In the next step, you will have to provide a pathname to an important
subdirectory within the the controller software folder--- the "bin"
subdirectory. For the next step, it is located at
	"c:\MTS Controller Software\bin".

Step 6:	Install Internet Information Services

	Select Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/
	Add-Remove Windows Components/Internet Information Services (IIS)/
Details... . Select the components as follows:

		Common Files yes
		Documentation no
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service	yes
		FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions	no
		Internet Information Services Snap-In	yes
		SMTP Service no
		World Wide Web Service no

Step 6:	Change the FTP Site Home Directory

	Select Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer
	Management/Services and Applications/Internet Information Services/
FTP Sites, right-click on Default FTP Site, and select Properties.
In the Home Directory tab, enter the path to the "bin" directory
in the FTP Site Directory Local Path edit box, or browse for it.
	For example:

		c:\MTS Controller Software\bin

Next, select the Security Accounts tab and uncheck Allow Anonymous
	connections.

Step 7:	Add a User Account for the MTS Controller

	Select Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer
Management/System Tools\Local Users and Groups, Users. Select New User
under the Action Menu and fill out the dialog as follows:

	Username: mts_rt
	Full name: (blank)
	Description: (blank)
	Password: mts_rt
	Confirm Password: mts_rt
User must change password ... off
	User cannot change password: on
	Password never expires: on
	Account is disabled: off

Next, select the Groups folder, double click on the Administrators group
icon, hit the Add... button, and enter

		mts_rt

to make this user a member of the Administrator group.

Step 8:	Change the TCP/IP Wait Delay Parameter in the Registry

Run the Visual Basic Script "TcpTimedWaitDelay.vbs" provided with the
controller software in the Documents subdirectory. This sets a critical
TCP/IP timing factor required for communication between the MTS controller
and the PC to be established. Make sure to reboot the PC after running
this script in order for the change to take effect.

POWERPC EEPROM SETUP (if required):

When the PowerPC boots, it establishes a TCP/IP link to the host PC and
downloads its software. The IP of the PowerPC, the IP of the host PC,
and the name of the software file to be downloaded are stored in the
PowerPC's EEPROM. The boards that come from MTS stock are preprogrammed
with default values that are appropriate for most applications, and
therefore need not be changed. However, if an application requires
different parameters, you must do two basic steps:
	1) Reprogram the PowerPC's FLASH ROM to remove the code that copies the
default parameters from FLASH ROM to EEPROM. Otherwise even if you
change the EEPROM values, the next time the PowerPC is rebooted the
boot program in the FLASH ROM will overwrite them.
	2) Reprogram the PowerPC's EEPROM with the desired parameter values.

Step 1 is a relatively complex operation that is beyond the scope of this
document, but is written up in great detail in a document titled
		"VxWorks Flash Programming.doc"
which is distributed along with this document.

After Step 1, Step 2 is accomplished as follows:

	a) Attach the serial debug cable between the PowerPC and the host PC.
	b) Call up HyperTerminal terminal emulator program (in Start, Programs,
Accessories, Communications). First you may need to set up the PC's
	   communication port properties, as follows:
		Bits per second:	9600
		Data bits: 8
		Parity: None
		Stop bits: 1
		Flow control: Xon/Xoff
	c) Reboot the PowerPC with CTRL-X.
	d) Hit any key immediately after reboot sequence begins (the operative
word here is "immediately"; if you are a little slow it doesn't work).
   	   The "[VxWorks Boot]:" prompt appears.
	e) If desired, type "p" to view current settings.
	f) Type "c" to change.
	g) Cycle through parameters, typing:
		<CR> to leave unchanged
		"." <CR> to erase
		<modification> <CR>	to modify
	h) When done, the PowerPC parameters should look like this:
		boot device : dc
		processor number	: 0
		host name : host
file name : mv2400 (depends on processor)
inet on ethernet (e)	: 148.150.203.191 (depends on application)
inet on backplane (b)	: 148.150.203.191 (depends on application)
host inet (h) : 148.150.203.190 (depends on application)
		gateway inet (g)	: (blank)
		user (u) : mts_rt
		ftp password (pw)	: mts_rt
		flags (f) : 0x8
		target name (tn)	: target0
startup script (s)	: startp0.vxc (depends on application)
		other(o) : (blank)
	i) Type @<CR> or CTRL-X to reboot processor.
